International Conference of ISAGB (ISAGBCON)

West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences and Indian Society of Animal Genetics & Breeding have pleasure in extending cordial invitation for the XIX Annual Convention of the Indian Society of Animal Genetics & Breeding (ISAGB) and International Conference on “Precision Animal Breeding through Genomics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning” being organized by the Department of Animal Genetics and Breeding at West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences (WBUAFS), Kolkata (West Bengal) during 13th and 14th November, 2025. The organizing committee is enlivened to welcome you to the City of Joy, Kolkata.

This conference will surely serve as a vibrant platform for sharing scientific knowledge and innovations, bringing together a diverse spectrum of the scientific community– including academicians, researchers from national and international institutes and universities, technocrats, industry leaders, policymakers, practicing veterinarians, startups, and research scholars. It aims to foster collaboration, ignite young minds and spark innovation to advance sustainable solutions for augmenting the animal food system.

Theme

India owing to the world’s largest livestock populations relies on animal husbandry for rural livelihoods and food security. However, traditional breeding and management practices often fall short in addressing the growing demands for productivity, sustainability, and animal welfare. In this context, digital technologies such as Genomics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and the Internet of Things (IoT) are reshaping the future of livestock breeding and management.

Genomics is revolutionizing selective breeding by enabling the identification of superior genetic traits–such as disease resistance, enhanced milk production, or improved meat quality-through DNA analysis. This accelerates genetic improvement far beyond what traditional breeding methods can achieve, helping build more productive and resilient animal populations.

Artificial Intelligence is transforming livestock health and management. With the aid of smart cameras and wearable sensors, AI systems can monitor animal behavior, detect early signs of illness, and optimize feeding and breeding schedules. These real-time insights allow farmers to make timely decisions, reducing economic losses and enhancing animal welfare. Machine Learning adds another layer of intelligence by integrating data from farm records, weather conditions, feed quality, and health parameters. This  enables  precision  livestock farming, where evidence-based decisions replace guesswork. Initiatives like e-Gopala and NDDB’s INAPH are already leveraging such technologies to support informed livestock management across India.

The Internet of Things (IoT) further enhances this ecosystem by enabling seamless connectivity between animals, sensors, and cloud-based systems. From tracking physiological parameters to optimizing environmental conditions, IoT tools make real-time monitoring and predictive analytics possible. When combined with AI, ML, and genomics, IoT paves the way for intelligent breeding systems that significantly boost reproductive efficiency, disease forecasting, and genetic progress. Its role is becoming increasingly vital in developing intelligent, responsive, and sustainable breeding systems tailored to the dynamic needs of the livestock sector.

Despite these advancements, challenges such as limited digital literacy, inadequate infrastructure, and uneven access to technology remain barriers to widespread adoption. Overcoming these hurdles through farmer training, affordable digital tools, and robust policy support is essential.

By integrating cutting-edge digital solutions with traditional knowledge systems, India can usher in an era of smart animal husbandry–one that is productive, profitable, resilient and sustainable for generations to come.

Host Institute

West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences is proud to host the much-anticipated International Conference of Indian Society of Animal Genetics S Breeding at its historic Belgachia Campus, Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, located at 37, K.B. Sarani, Kolkata-700 037, India.

This distinguished venue, formerly known as Bengal Veterinary College, established in 1893, is a landmark institution with over a century-old legacy

in veterinary education and research. Elevated to a full-fledged university in 1995, it became the second veterinary university in India. In 2018, the institute celebrated its 125 years of excellence, continuing its mission of advancing knowledge in animal science. Hosting this conference further strengthens its role in fostering the next generation of researchers in Animal Genetics and Breeding.
