Invitation – International Conference of ISAGB (ISAGBCON)

Isagbcon kolkata conference
Dear Friends and Colleagues,

West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences and Indian Society of Animal Genetics & Breeding have pleasure in extending cordial invitation for the XIX Annual Convention of the Indian Society of Animal Genetics & Breeding (ISAGB) and International Conference (ISAGB Conference Kolkata 2025) on “Precision Animal Breeding through Genomics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning” being organized by the Department of Animal Genetics and Breeding at West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences (WBUAFS), Kolkata (West Bengal) during 13th and 14th November, 2025. The organizing committee is excited to welcome you to the city of Joy, Kolkata.

This Conference is platform for Scientific faculty, Academicians, Scientists from Research Institutes, SAUs, Semen stations, devoted students, advisors, research scholars, and practicing veterinarians who are more concerned with the latest advancements related to the augmentation of livestock health and productivity.

Theme

India, with one of the world’s largest livestock populations, relies heavily on animal husbandry for rural livelihoods and food security. As traditional methods face limitations in productivity and sustainability, digital technologies are revolutionizing livestock breeding. Genomics, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning are emerging as powerful tools to enhance animal health, productivity, and breeding outcomes.

Genomics is playing a vital role in selective breeding. By analyzing DNA sequences, scientists can identify animals with superior traits such as disease resistance, higher milk yield, or better meat quality. Genomic selection accelerates genetic improvement compared to traditional breeding, making herds more resilient and productive.

AI algorithms are now being used to monitor animal behaviour, detect diseases early, and optimize feeding schedules. Wearable sensors and smart cameras collect real-time data, which AI processes to alert farmers about health anomalies or reproductive cycles. This proactive approach significantly reduces economic losses and improves animal welfare.

Machine Learning integrates diverse information from farm records, weather patterns, feed inputs, and animal health metrics. This data-driven approach supports precision livestock farming, where decisions are informed by evidence, not guesswork. Platforms like e-Gopala and NDDB’s INAPH system are already contributing to digital livestock management in India.

Internet of Things (IoT) is revolutionizing the landscape of precision animal breeding by enabling real-time monitoring and data-driven decision-making. From wearable sensors that track physiological parameters to smart farm systems that optimize environmental conditions, IoT bridges the gap between on-ground livestock management and cloud-based analytics. When integrated with genomics, AI, and machine learning, IoT empowers breeders to enhance reproductive efficiency, disease prediction, and genetic gain with unprecedented accuracy. Its role is becoming increasingly vital in developing intelligent, responsive, and sustainable breeding systems tailored to the dynamic needs of the livestock sector.

However, the digital divide, lack of farmer awareness, and infrastructure gaps remain key challenges. Addressing these through training, affordable technologies, and government support will be crucial. By harnessing digital tools, India can achieve smart animal husbandry that is efficient, profitable, and sustainable.

Host Institute

The venue of the Conference will be at West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences, Belgachia, 37, KB Sarani, Kolkata. Bengal Veterinary College, established in 1893 on the grounds of the century-old legacy Institute of the Veterinary Education and Research, was the country’s second veterinary university in 1995.The institute also celebrated its 125 years of establishment in 2018 and this Conference will also serve to generate a group of researchers in the Animal Genetics and Breeding discipline. Kolkata, the City of Joy, often termed as ‘Cultural Capital of India’ and the gateway of Eastern India is situated on the Eastern Bank of the river Ganges. With the thickly populated and full of vibrating life, the fascinating city is rich in its traditional heritage of culture, education, and social welfare. The city has nurtured an ever-long list of philanthropists with their glorious and humanitarian contributions to the world’s welfare and thoughts. It cradled the Nobel Laureates Sir Ronald Ross, Rabindra Nath Tagore, Prof. CV Raman, Mother Teresa, Amartya Sen, and glorified Mother India. The weather in the month of November in Kolkata will be comfortable with a low of 20°C and a high up to 30°C.
